More animal abuse charges filed against eastern Iowa woman

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A woman who had 35 animals taken from her Cedar Rapids home last month, now faces charges in connection with that seizure.

Jennifer Leslie Wood, 36, is now charged with 35 counts of abuse of animals and two counts of unhealthy or unsanitary conditions.

On February 17, Cedar Rapids Police took 32 dogs, two cats and a parrot from Wood's home at 308 30th Street Drive SE.

About a week before that, Wood was forced to close her business, The Puppy Playground in Hiawatha, after inspectors found overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.  More animals were rescued from there.

Wood also faces charges in Iowa County after three llamas and a pot-bellied pig were found dead on a farm she owns near North English.

She also turned over seven dogs and two horses from that farm.

A warrant for her arrest was issued last week after she failed to appear in court.

Iowa County Sheriff Robert Rotter says they have not been able to find Jennifer Wood.
