Dunkerton Raiders show their school spirit

DUNKERTON (KWWL) -- The Raiders of Dunkerton filled their new gymnasium Friday morning to show their school spirit.

One standout player at Dunkerton is senior Corey Joens, who has scored 1,000 points during his basketball career at the school.

"There's a lot of great basketball players that have gone through here, so to be in the thousand point group is quite an honor," Joens said.

Boys Track coach Jeff Thompson has been at the school for 30 years and had great things to say about all of the programs at the school.

"We've got some experience, we've got some youth here with the girls coach. We've got good numbers out this year. Our golf team is, I think, the biggest ever. Spring is the time of year where you get refreshed. We've got a lot of things going, Thompson said.

Superintendent Jim Stanton said his students have a lot going on including a trip to Chicago where the whole school is invited to go.  Students and community members fundraise for four years to take this "Four Year Trip."  This year 122 students will spend three days and two nights in Chicago.  They leave next week.

If you'd like to show off your school's spirit, text the keyword "SPIRIT" to 82942. If your school receives the most votes, we'll give you a chance to show off your school spirit live on Today In Iowa on Friday morning. Standard message and data rates apply.
