Cedar Falls house concert brings back NY musician Ari Hest

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL)-- We're fortunate to have many places to see live music in the Cedar Valley, but a nationally known recording artist gave listeners in Cedar Falls a very intimate concert Wednesday night, and you're welcome to literally "make yourself at home."

From the outside it looks like an ordinary house. But once you step through these doors, you hear something much different.

Darice Mangin opens her home for what are called the Cedar Valley House Concerts.

"A lot of independent singer-songwriters don't get the opportunity to come here and play."

Darice's daughter Jordan takes the tickets.

Jordan says, "Enjoy the show!"

Every penny goes back to the musician.

New York singer songwriter Ari Hest is in town to play songs from his new album,

"Sunset over Hope Street."

It's great to be in a situation where you know everyone working with you and when I was with Columbia it was hard to keep track of that."

Concert goers find a spot on the couch, the stairs or the floor.

The host invites them to bring in their own drinks and snacks for an evening dedicated solely to the music and the artist who creates it.

Darice Mangin says, "Everyone is here for the music. It isn't like at a bar where people are there for the drinks or to meet other singles."

Ari's tours take him around the country, but says he'll always make time to return to Cedar Falls because it feels like home.
