Polar Plunge benefits Special Olympics Iowa Athletes

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The fourth annual Polar Plunge in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area is planned for April 9.  It is one of 13 locations in the state of Iowa to hold this event. Participants jump into the lake at George Wyth State Park in groups of 10 or more. Participants can either recruit a team or be placed on a team the day of the Plunge.

When a "plunger" raises a minimum of $60 in pledges they receive an official polar bear long sleeve T-shirt and admission to the catered post-plunge party. The more money a plunger raises, the more prizes they receive. Special prizes will be given to the Plunger who raises the most money, the team with the best costume and the Plunger with the best costume.

Those who do not want to plunge can register as a "chicken". For $60, you receive a "Too Chicken to Plunge" long-sleeve T-shirt and admission to the post-plunge party.

Register online and start raising money now by visiting www.firstgiving.com/soiowa.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. April 9, with the Plunge beginning at noon.
