IA Senate approves public info board

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- The Iowa Senate has approved the creation of a public information board to provide training, conflict resolution and formal rulings on the state's open records and meetings laws.  It has support from Gov. Terry Branstad and others who have called for greater government openness.

Under the bill, the governor would appoint a 7-member board with representatives of the media, cities, counties, schools, the Iowa Freedom of Information Council, the citizen's aide and the Attorney General's office. The bill also increases fines for knowingly violating the state's sunshine laws.
