UNI women win 2nd straight MVC Title


ST. CHARLES, MO (KWWL) -- What a season it's been for the Northern Iowa women and that season will continue, thanks to a huge win Sunday in the MVC Championship Game.

Tanya Warren's squad was looking for their 19th straight win and their second straight automatic NCAA Tournament berth.

UNI went on a 17-0 run early in the first half. Four Panthers scored in double figures, led by Katelin Oney who led the Panthers with 16 points. K.K. Armstrong came off the bench to tally 14 points and dish out three assists, and Jacqui Kalin finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Amber Kirschbaum notched her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Kalin earned all-tournament MVP honors, and Armstrong and Lizzie Boeck each earned spots on the all-tournament team.

For the second year in a row, 69-41, earning them an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. They'll learn their fate Monday night at 6:00 p.m. They'll host a public watch party at the Alumni Suite in the McLeod Center start 5:30 p.m.
