DES MOINES (KWWL)-  Waverly Shell-Rock was never able to completely recover from an early deficit in the 3A state championship game against Sioux City Bishop Heelan.

But they came close.

The Go-Hawks fell to the Crusaders 62-60 in Saturday night's 3A title game at Wells Fargo Arena.

Waverly-Shell Rock fell behind by as much as 12 in the first half.  The Go-Hawks were led by Connor Coleman's 19 points.

The loss was the Go-Hawks first blemish on the season.

"I wish we would have had 30 more seconds but we just continued to fight and we never quit and that's what I'm taking from this game," said WSR head coach Nate Steege.

The Crusaders have now won three straight state championships.
