Big bands coming to Dubuque this summer

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- The eighth annual America's River Festival at the Port of Dubuque is bringing in some big-name entertainment.

The event starts Friday, June 10 and ends Sunday, June 12.

On Friday evening, the opening act is Foghat, a band known for hits such as, "Fool for the City," "Drivin' Wheel," "Eight Days on the Road" and "Slow Ride."

Friday's headliner is a rock band boasting 21 top-10 singles, 25 platinum albums and a total of 47 gold and platinum awards, to name a few accolades. It's known for hits such as "25 or 6 or 4," "Make me Smile," "Colour my World," "Beginnings" and "Saturday in the Park." The group is rock band Chicago.

On Saturday, the opening act Starship, starring Mickey Thomas, brought the world hits such as "We Built this City (on Rock and Roll)," "Find Your Back," "Jane" and "Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now."

The group headlining on Saturday is the recipient of Grammy Awards, People's Choice Awards and American Music Awards. The band's founder won a Grammy in 1978 for Producer of the Year for his on the soundtrack of "Saturday Night Fever." The group is KC and the Sunshine Band, and it has sold more than 100 million records.

Local bands playing at the festival include Buzz Berries, Horsin' Around Band and the Upper Main Street Jazz Band.

Once again, America's River Festival will also have Dock Dogs, Dubuque Idol Kids Vocal Talent Show, Big Dawg NASCAR Racing Simulator, kids inflatables and more.

Tickets for the musical acts go on sale Monday, April 11 through Dubuque's Five Flags box office and Ticketmaster.

Reserved seats for Friday, June 10 are $45 (Chicago and Foghat)

Reserved seats for Saturday, June 11 are $35 (KC and the Sunshine Band and Starship, starring Mickey Thomas)
