Teen accused of attempted murder enters plea

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- A teen accused of trying to kill an employee of Hillcrest Family Services has entered a plea agreement.

Jesse Shimon, 17, was charged with Attempted Murder, Willful Injury, First Degree Burglary and Second Degree Theft after the Jan. 12, incident.

Police say Shimon escaped from his room and broke into University Auto and took a shotgun, a knife and a vehicle from the business.

They say Shimon then returned to Hillcrest and attempted to shoot 58-year-old Robert Mollman, an employee at the facility. Fortunately, the gun failed to fire. Mollman told police Shimon then assaulted him.

Police arrived around 3:40 a.m. and found Mollman injured and Shimon hiding in a vehicle on Asbury road.

If the plea agreement is accepted by the judge, the Attempted Murder charge will be dismissed.

Sentencing is set for May 5, at 1:15 p.m.
