CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- An early morning police chase on Thursday ended in a crash near a Cedar Rapids high school.

Around 1:30 a.m. an Iowa State trooper was trying to pull over a speeding driver on 42nd Street near Glen Elm Drive, but the driver accelerated instead of stopping. The car was clocked going 78 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The driver crashed a few blocks away near Kennedy High School while trying to turn a corner.

The driver, 32-year-old James Stout of Marion, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, attempting to elude, speeding and driving with a suspended license.

A female passenger was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Court records show Stout pleaded guilty to federal charges of taking stolen goods, including a car, boat and three trailers in 2008. Stout was sentenced to two years in prison, and was on supervised release.

Last week, Stout's supervised release was revoked and he was ordered by the court to report to the Hinzman Center in Cedar Rapids on March 28.
