Mount Vernon (KWWL) -- Going into the 2010 basketball season as defending 2A champions the Mount Vernon Mustangs had a few goals in mind with the team they were returning.
"We have a lot of talented players on our team," says Micah Wieditz, "and it is definitely a benefit in our practices because it just makes us so much better in practice to have so many good players playing against each other."
For Wieditz, the senior who plans to play softball at Coe college, it is about taking care of the perimeter. She did that last week at the state tournament sinking 5 three pointers earning all tournament team honors
"Micah is one of those girls that can contribute the three pointers and defense for us," says Taylor Dicus.
The Mustangs inside game is handled by future Cornell Volleyball/Basketball player Taylor Dicus, who scored a 3A tournament best 45 points last week.
"Taylor brings a great inside presence for us and rebounding, she has a great shot with in 15, 16 foot which can draw the big girls outside then obviously her power underneath." Said Mustang Head Coach Bob Kintzel.
For the defending 2A champions, it was a tough transition to 3A, but they meet and surpassed expectations all season going 24-3 winning the conference and for the 6 seniors a 49-6 2 year mark and a season they won't soon forget.
