Waterloo man sentenced on federal drug charges

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A man who sold more than 5 pounds of methamphetamine in Waterloo was sentenced Thursday to more than 14 years in federal prison.

James McClain, 57, from Waterloo, received the prison term after a December 6, 2010, guilty plea to one count of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. McClain had been convicted in 2001 in Black Hawk County of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to deliver.

At the guilty plea hearing, McClain admitted he was getting methamphetamine from Arizona and selling it in and around Waterloo. McClain received more than five pounds of methamphetamine from Arizona over approximately a seven month period.

McClain was sentenced to 176 months' and 6 days' imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
