Lawmakers work up to funnel deadline

DES MOINES (KWWL)-- As lawmakers approach the session's first funnel deadline, hundreds of bills have been approved in committee.

Some of the notable bills recently kept alive include:

-A bill to legalize online poker in Iowa.

-An effort to standardize red light and traffic cameras.

-A proposal making it easier for energy companies to construct nuclear power plants in the state.

-A stand your ground bill, allowing Iowans who face serious injury or death to use reasonable force in a place they have the right to be.

-A measure putting restrictions on abortion after the 20th week of pregnancy.

Failing to make it through the deadline this week:

-A bill that would ban all abortions in the state.

-A proposal that would reshape the way judges are selected.

-A measure to end visitation rights for parents who don't make child support payments.

-An effort to raise the speed limit to 60 miles per hour on primary and secondary roads.
