N. Iowa county to look into arsenic in water wells

Posted:

MASON CITY (KWWL) -- Public health officials in Cerro Gordo County are looking for owners of water wells to participate in a study on arsenic.

The health department has received funding to test wells for high levels of arsenic and to learn how and why arsenic is in private wells.

About 125 well owners will be asked to participate.

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element and enters drinking water supplies from natural deposits in the earth or from agricultural and industrial practices. It has been linked to cancer.
