UPDATE: Train hits SUV, killing 2 people

MECHANICSVILLE (KWWL) -- Authorities say two people have died after a train smashed into their sport utility vehicle, which had stopped on a railroad crossing.

The Iowa State Patrol said Thursday it is investigating the accident that killed 82-year-old Dean Harold Bohr and 76-year-old Marianne Bohr of Mechanicsville.

A police report says the Pontiac Torrent driven by Dean Bohr was stopped on the railroad grade crossing when the vehicle was hit by an eastbound Union Pacific Railway train at about 2:46 a.m. The crash occurred just north of Highway 30.
