Firing of Iowa trooper upheld

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- A judge has upheld the firing of an Iowa state trooper who e-mailed mug shots of criminal suspects wearing T-shirts supporting the election of Barack Obama as president.

The Iowa State Patrol fired 49-year-old Rodney Hicok of Webster City in May 2009. The firing came after two more incidents: He used state equipment to print a racially tinged joke, and he used a state computer to show other troopers a video titled "Wetback English."

Hicok's attorney says they are planning an appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court.  Hicok had worked 28 years for the Iowa Department of Safety.
