Free screenings for women with no medical insurance

Posted:

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- United Way of East Central Iowa's Women's Leadership Initiative will sponsor a spring Well Women Week, April 4-8, in partnership with Healthy Linn Care Network. Women ages 19-39 with no medical insurance qualify for a free pap test, and women ages 40-64 with no medical insurance qualify for a free pap and mammogram. Income guidelines apply and appointments are limited.

Appointments are required and will be accepted beginning Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Women who are interested should call (319) 892-6019. Services are available on a first come, first served basis.

"Well Woman Week is an important event to showcase no-cost cancer screening opportunities for low-income, uninsured women," says Amanda Pieper, Healthy Linn Care Network Outreach Coordinator. "Catching cancer in its earliest stages provides the best opportunity for a cure."

Services are provided by: Jones Regional Medical Center, Linn Community Care, Mercy Women's Center/Mercy Mobile Unit, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, RCI Imaging Center, St. Luke's Breast and Bone Health, St. Luke's Family Health Center and Iowa Health Physicians - Belle Plaine. This event is coordinated by Healthy Linn Care Network.
