Bank loans down in Iowa

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Federal data shows Iowa banks lent less money again last year.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. says the total Iowa loan amount dropped for the second year in a row, to $42.8 billion in 2010. The state peak was $44.9 billion in loans in 2008.

The FDIC says 26 Iowa banks lost money last year, compared with almost 50 Iowa banks in 2009.  Experts say bank loan figures are an indication of economic growth.
