Iowa union workers head to Wisconsin protest

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Eastern Iowa union members are headed to Wisconsin to show their support to workers protesting their governor's proposal to limit union rights.

A bus left Cedar Rapids Saturday morning with area union members. The bus was paid for by Scott Smith, president of the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Building Trades Council. Smith said union workers believe that teachers and workers who plow snow and clean streets deserve bargaining rights.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's bill would largely eliminate government workers' collective bargaining rights. The proposal continues to draw protesters to Madison. Union workers in several other states also protested Walker's bill on Saturday.
