DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Linn Mar's superintendent is among three people named to the Iowa Board of Regents.

Katie Mulholland along with Bruce Rastetter of Hubbard and Nicole Carroll of Carroll were picked by Governor Branstad on Friday to serve on the nine-member board.

Mulholland has a bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctorate degree from the University of Northern Iowa and lives in Marion with her husband Ed.  They have four grown children.

"Katie Mulholland will strengthen the board for years to come," said Branstad in a written statement. "I believe that Katie Mulholland's perspective as a career educator and active citizen will bring a unique perspective to the Board of Regents."

Rastetter has a bachelor's degree from The University of Iowa and is currently the CEO of Hawkeye Energy Holdings, LLC.

Carroll holds a B.S. from Iowa State University and a J.D. from The University of Iowa.

The Iowa Board of Regents was created in 1909 by the Iowa General Assembly and oversees The University of Iowa, Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa, the Iowa School for the Deaf and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School.

The nine members serve staggered six-year terms.

Rastetter, Mulholland and Carroll will begin their six-year term on May 1, 2011 and runs through April 30, 2017.

Their names have been submitted for Senate confirmation by Governor Branstad.
