CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A high speed chase ended in a crash Friday morning in Cedar Rapids.

Cedar Rapids Police say an SUV stolen from Oelwein on December 1 was spotted at 6th Street and 11th Ave. SE at around 9:27 a.m.  When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver, Daniel Hite, 45, of Clinton, refused to stop.

Hite headed west on 12th Ave SE, which turns into 15th Ave. SE and eventually merges to become 16th Ave. SE.

Officers put down stop sticks at 16th Ave. and Edgewood Rd. SW, which blew the tires, but Hite was able to continue westbound on 16th Ave. SW.

At the intersection of 16th Ave. SW and Wiley Blvd., Hite ran a redlight crashing into a car driven by Douglas Nassif, 65, who was northbound on Wiley Blvd. and had the green light.

The impact of the crash caused the SUV to roll.

Hite and his passenger, Sara Weaver, 35, of Cedar Rapids, both got out of the SUV and ran.  They were both caught a short distance away.

Nassif was taken to St Luke's Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Hite and Weaver were taken to Mercy Medical Center where they were treated, released and then taken to the Linn County Jail.

Weaver is charged with Interference with Official Acts for trying to flee the scene.

Hite is charged with Driving While Barred, Speed (110 mph in a 30 mph zone), Second Degree Theft, Attempting to Elude, No Insurance, seven counts of Disobedience to a Traffic Control Device, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Control, Illegal Passing, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The investigation continues and other charges are pending.
