Mercy Medical Center selects name for new cancer center

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids announced on Thursday that it will name its new cancer center the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center.

The name recognizes Howard and Margaret Hall and Beahl and Irene Perrine who have supported Mercy for five decades and together, gave more than $25 million to develop cancer facilities, programs, and services.

"The Hall and Perrine families have been devoted to ensuring that the best cancer care is available in Cedar Rapids at the Hall Radiation Center and the Perrine Oncology Center at Mercy," said Tim Charles, Mercy's president and CEO, in a written statement. "This new building will bring together the best cancer specialists for patient-centered care and research, so it is fitting that the center bears the Hall and Perrine names as they made it their mission to improve the quality of life for the people of Linn County."

The Hall-Perrine Cancer Center will be home to advanced and integrated cancer services and give patients direct access to treatment.

An official groundbreaking for the facility will take place this spring.  The Hall-Perrine Cancer Center is expected to be completed by Spring 2012.
