Cedar Rapids mom headed to Washington D.C to represent Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)-- A Cedar Rapids mom is headed to Washington D.C this spring.

An elementary school principal nominated Leanne Loehr as the Iowa delegate to the 2011 mom congress on education and learning.

When asked to rattle off her ten kids, Leanne Loehr doesn't skip a beat.

Loehr says, "Justin, Haley, Kyle, Katie, Dalton, Jackson, Autumn, Noah, Conner and Lacy."

On top of managing a hectic household, this multi-tasking mom manages the school's store, volunteers in the cafeteria, and organized a back to school project to make sure every student had a backpack full of fresh supplies.

Loehr says, "Pierce didn't qualify for any funding so everything that we do at Pierce through the back to school backpack program we get the funds 100% to make it happen"

Pierce Principal Dr. Becky Dewald nominated Leanne for an award from Parenting magazine.

She'll appear in the popular publication after she travels to Washington D.C to meet with other moms from around the country.

Loehr says, "It's a great honor."

They'll network about educational, parental and personal issues.

Loehr says, "I'm excited just to meet the other moms and kind of pick their brains and see what they do in their children's school and see what I can bring back to Iowa."

Leanne says if she can find time to volunteer with ten kids and a husband at home, so can any mom.

It keeps her grounded and coming back for more.

Don't count on this mom slowing down after her field trip.  She's already dreaming up her next plan to give-back.

She's working with the Boys and Girls Club to create a satellite location at Pierce Elementary for kids to have a safe place to go before and after school.
