Cedar Rapids police seize 35 animals

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Law enforcement from Cedar Rapids and Iowa City executed a search warrant at 308 30th Street Drive SE on Thursday and seized 35 animals from the property.

Jennifer Wood, 36, owns and lives in the home.

Thirty-two dogs were seized and ranged in size and breed but included Great Pyrenees and Dachshunds. Two cats and a parrot were also seized.

Authorities say further investigation will be required to determine any charges.

The Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter will be closed Friday through the weekend to allow staff to evaluate and process the seized animals. Shelter staff will still respond to any emergency calls.

"With the seizure of 32 dogs we have doubled our maximum holding capacity at the shelter", said Diane Webber, Program Manager for the Cedar Rapids Animal Care & Control shelter in a written statement. "Situations like this put a huge burden on both staff and financial resources for the shelter."
