DES MOINES (KWWL)-- Denver-Tripoli faced an uphill battle to defend their class 2A title, and they'd start the fight right away. At 112, Dylan Peters was dominant in a tech fall over New Hampton's Leighton Gaul.

Brandon Sorenson picked up a takedown en route to a second period pin at 130. In all, the Titans sent 3 to the semis.

Union sent a pair to the next round as Jake Reiter picked up the decision at 171, while last year's runner up Logan Thompson pinned Jordan Roths at 130

Logan Thompson said, "As the match went on he got tired, and I didn't. He walked right into my headlock and I threw it."

West Delaware's Zach Less picked up a decision at 103 joining teammate Adam Reth in the semis. Tyler Mitchell of Charles City needed a late reversal for a for a tight 4-3 decision at 135, while a trio of Independence Mustangs are moving on. Chris Johnson eeked out a decision at 145, Nick FUller majored Atlantic's Derek Stork, while undefeated Blaize Cabell cruised to a tech fall over Sam VanGinkel of Western Christian.

Blaize Cabell said, "I just want to go out there and be on the attack as much as I can. If I'm on my attack then other people can't be in on my legs, can't be attacking me, so domination is kind of the plan right now."

Rounding things out, Williamsburg heavyweight Austin Blythe picked up another early pin while New Hampton's Logan Hopp followed suit dispatching Denver-Tripoli's Kody Wadell in the second period.
