Controlling hand movement measures severity of ADHD

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Two new studies find a child's inability to control impulsive hand movements is linked to the severity of their ADHD.

When children were asked to tap their thumb to each finger on one hand, those with ADHD were twice as likely to unintentionally perform the same motion on their other hand.

The difference was especially significant in boys, who showed almost four times as many mirrored hand motions as boys without the condition.

Children with ADHD also scored 60 percent lower on tests that measured brain-related motor function control of the hand.
