DCI unveils sex offender Most Wanted web page

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Wednesday the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation unveiled a new resource on the Sex Offender Registry website.

Iowa's non-compliant sex offenders are now easier to identify through the registry's Most Wanted page.

You can view the page here.

The following criteria are being used to place a registered sex offender on the Most Wanted page:

  • A Tier III offender
  • In non-compliance status with the Sex Offender Registry for at least 60 days
  • Currently has an arrest warrant on file in Iowa

The DCI says there are more than 5,000 active registrants on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Roughly 20 to 30 offenders will appear on the Most Wanted list at any time. Once a most wanted offender has been apprehended, his or her status will be noted as such, and he or she will remain on the list for 14 days to allow sufficient time for public notification of the apprehension.

Within the coming weeks, citizens signed up for Sex Offender Registry email notifications will also receive periodic bulletins on changes to the Most Wanted list. Any member of the public can sign up for free notices by going to the Sex Offender Registry website and clicking on "Email Notifications."
