Camp Courageous expanding, building lake

MONTICELLO (KWWL) -- Camp Courageous announced on Tuesday that it will expand the camp by 30-acres and build a lake for use by their campers.

The camp bought 30-acres to the immediate west of the base camp and will turn that area into a lake for canoeing, fishing and other water activities.

Currently, campers are bused 22-miles round trip to Central Park for water activities. The construction of a lake will greatly lessen the camp's risk because everything will be within walking distance or a train ride from base camp.

Naming rights for the land and lake will be sold for $250,000. Gifts of $1,000 or more will be honored with a plaque. Contributions of any amount are appreciated to help offset the costs.

The camp's first priority will be surveying the land and the layout of the lake. Volunteers are needed to help with the clearing and ground work that need to be done. Anyone with these skills and/or equipment are encouraged to contact Camp Courageous.
