Two law enforcement vehicles struck during chase

JONES COUNTY (KWWL)--  A couple of law enforcement vehicles are damaged, after a police pursuit through two counties.

Marion police officials say they tried to stop 21-year-old Christopher Hinzie, of Hiawatha, for a traffic violation in Marion, but he refused to stop.

Officials say while pursing him, he reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour on Highway 151. He eventually moved out of Linn County and into Jones County. Deputies used stop sticks near Anamosa, which deflated one of Hinzie's tires.

Police say during the pursuit, Hinzie's vehicle struck a Jones County Sheriff's Office vehicle, and then later hit an Iowa State Patrol vehicle. Police say that second collision sent Hinzie's Buick LeSabre into the median just west of Monticello.

Hinzie was taken into custody and charged with Eluding, two counts of Assault on a Peace Officer, and numerous other traffic violations.

Marion police later learned that Hinzie was involved in making death threats to an ex-girlfriend earlier in the day. Charges for Harassment are pending.
