UNI to pay $210,000 in settlement with former professor

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- The University of Northern Iowa has agreed to pay $210,000 and provide health insurance benefits to settle lawsuits filed by a former professor who claimed that mistreatment by colleagues forced her to have a mental health breakdown in 2007.

Linda Sharp was a choral music instructor at Malcolm Price Laboratory School run by the UNI College of Education.

The three lawsuits were scheduled to go to trial next month. The lawsuits date back to 2003 when school officials told Sharp she would be assigned to an administrative job instead of a teaching position. She was eventually reassigned to teaching, but clashed with colleagues and went on medical leave in 2007.
