United Way of East Central Iowa sets record


CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The United Way of East Central Iowa has reached an all time record in its annual fundraising campaigning.

$10,512,000 was raised during the 2010 campaign. The funds will help support United Way's efforts in the areas of education, income and health, and provide critical services to people in the community.

More than 250 volunteers and supporters attended a reception which revealed the new record. The contribution total was 182,000 more than last year's total.

"We felt very positive going into this year that we would be successful," Barry Boyer said in a written release. "Reaching this record is a testament to the outstanding support and corporate leadership we have in this area, as well as the way people believe in the work of United Way."

Here are some of the top contributors according to the East Central Iowa United Way:

Rockwell Collins – Campaign passed $2 million for the fifth year in a row ($2,166,066)

AEGON USA – Campaign surpassed $1.5 million for the fourth time ($1,857,957)

General Mills – Campaign again passed the $500,000 level ($621,914)

Hall-Perrine Foundation – Campaign again passed the $500,000 level ($551,682)

Business of the Year Awards were presented by the United Way to Whirlpool/Amana and I.A.M. Local 1526, Kirkwood Community College and Collins Community Credit Union.
