WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Some feasted on fried chicken, corn bread, macaroni and cheese, black eyed peas and peach cobbler Thursday night.

It was part of the third annual Black History and Soul Food Dinner served up at Lincoln Elementary in Waterloo on Thursday night.

Before eating, the more than 600 people who came out also watched students sing songs and perform.

''You know you need to celebrate Black history all the time and especially in February we just thought it would be really nice to do it on our parent night because we have had such great attendance on parent night,'' said second grade teacher Phaedra Mobley.

Edison Elementary also hosted a soul food event Thursday night.
