Applications being accepted for Nick Adenhart Scholarship

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids Kernels Foundation is now accepting applications for the Nick Adenhart Memorial Scholarship.

Nick Adenhart, who played for the Kernels in 2006, was tragically killed by a drunk driver on April 9, 2009, just hours after his season debut with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  He was 22-years old.

Nick's family is honoring him by giving a $1,000 scholarship in his memory. The Kernels Foundation is administering the scholarship on behalf of Nick's family.

Applicants must be:

  • A graduating high school senior from a public or parochial high school in the Cedar Rapids metro area.
  • Planning to attend a two or four-year accredited college or university and enrolled in 12 or more hours per semester.
  • Must have played an organized sport in the last two years.  Does not have to be a school-sponsored sport.
  • Be a great teammate.
  • Demonstrated hard work and determination.
  • Have a clear vision of career goals.
