Iowans serving in Afghanistan

KUNAR PROVINCE, AFGHANISTAN (KWWL)-- The Iowa National Guard's 734th Agribusiness Team has been hard at work helping to grow agriculture in Afghanistan.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Rick McLain of Stockport was part of a group helping to pave the way with local officials for a demonstration farm. They discussed plans for cool storage and a greenhouse.

Master Sergeant Darla Sheasley of Everly taught a class on basic animal care to a group of women from the Chowkay District. Her linguist that day, Shafiqa Ansary of Union City, California was unexpectedly reunited with a family member during the class.

Ansary told the women about her family's connection to the area, and a class member brought in Qadrie. Qadrie is Ansary's sister-in law. The last time the two saw each other was 48 years ago.
