DNR extends deadline to remove ice houses north of Hwy. 20

CLEAR LAKE (KWWL) --  The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has extended the deadline to remove ice fishing houses from state owned lakes north of Highway 20.

Owners with shelters on lakes north of Highway 20 now have until Feb. 27, a week longer than normal.

The DNR says favorable ice conditions across north Iowa are allowing for the extension.

Those with permanent ice shelters on lakes south of Hwy. 20, must have the shelters off the ice by Feb. 20, or ice melt, whichever comes first.

Owners with shelters still on the ice after the deadline, will be subject to fines.  The DNR also reminds folks that if a shelter falls through the ice, the owner is responsible for its removal.
