Iowa grad students' union rallies before talks

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- A union representing University of Iowa graduate teaching and research assistants rallied its forces on Monday before sitting down with Board of Regents negotiators.

The Campaign to Organize Graduate Students, the union representing the teaching and research assistants, rallied at the Pentacrest on Monday evening before discussions with the Board of Regents.

The union is seeking a 4% raise in 2011-12 and 2012-13, 100% tuition scholarships and a hike in university contributions to the health insurance premium for dependents of graduate teaching and research assistants.

The state is proposing a small tuition scholarship increase and cuts to graduate employee health benefits.
