Regents approve plans for new UI Children's Hospital

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The Iowa Board of Regents approves plans to build a new children's hospital at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The $270 million facility will go right across the street from Kinnick Stadium, just south of hospital parking ramp 2 in Iowa City.

The eight to nine story tower will bring together all pediatric care units.  Those units are currently in ten different locations.

This project is part of a large overhaul that currently calls for three additional new towers after the children's hospital.

It's slated to be finished in 2016 and is being paid for by health care revenues, hospital bonding and private gifts.
