Cedar Rapids Police remind residents that streets aren't for storage

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Cedar Rapids Police want to remind residents that city streets are not meant for vehicle storage.

Under city code, all vehicles parked on city streets must be moved every 48 hours.

With the heavy snow fall this week, officers can tell which vehicles have not been moved in the 48 hour window after the snow fall.  Officers do not have to visibly mark vehicles for street storage.

As a courtesy, residents will have this weekend to dig out their vehicles and move them.  Vehicles not moved will be towed next week.

This does not apply to previously marked vehicles that are due to be towed.
