Snow Emergency declared in Iowa City

Posted:

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The city of Iowa City has declared a snow emergency to help crews deal with what the blizzard left behind.

The snow emergency is in effect in Iowa City from Thursday and ends on Saturday at 8:00 a.m.

During a snow emergency, on-street parking is restricted outside of the central business district. Streets that normally permit parking on both sides of the street will be subject to "alternate side of the street" parking. On odd-numbered days of the month, parking is permitted only on the odd-numbered side of the street. Likewise, parking is permitted only on the even-numbered side of the street on even-numbered days.

On streets where parking is allowed on only one side, the odd/even rule still applies.  If the permitted side is even numbered, vehicles can only park on that side on even-numbered days. If the permitted side is odd-numbered, vehicles can only park on that side on odd-numbered days. No parking is permitted on the side of the street where parking is prohibited.

You can also park overnight in downtown parking ramps at no charge if you remove your vehicle between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.  Parking is also available in parking lots of all city parks during a snow emergency.

Vehicles in violation of these rules can be ticketed and towed.  Tickets are $50 per violation. Towing and storage fees will be the responsibility of the vehicle owner and owners may contact the Iowa City Police Department (319) 356-5275 for information on how to recover their vehicle. Go to www.icgov.org/snow for more information.
