Iowa City downtown packed with snow

IOWA CITY (KWWL)-- Not everyone hates the snow. In fact, Paul Smith of Iowa City loves it.

"It's a lot of fun, it just creates a lot of work," Smith said on Wednesday.

Even though that was his first time out of the house Wednesday, after a snow plow finally came by his home around 1 PM.

"And then once the plow came by, I had about three feet of snow at the end of the driveway to clear, so it took me a couple hours to do that."

Inches of snow meant dozens of customers for Pyramid Services, where snow blowers are sold and serviced. However, several walkways remained packed with snow.

"If you go outside of campus, they have not shoveled any of the sidewalks," one University of Iowa student told us. "You have to walk on the street."

Some alleys were impassable, and some streets ended up with nature-made center dividers.

You wouldn't typically stand in the middle of North Dubuque Street, because it's one of the busier roads here in downtown Iowa City. But so much snow fell that it created a drift in the center of that street, about 2 feet thick and about 8 feet wide.

Brian DeCoster, originally from the Quad Cities, would like to see streets cleared faster after future storms.

"I forget how nice the streets can look when I go back to Bettendorf and I see everything's plowed, and then I come back to Iowa City and you just get used to the status quo around here," said DeCoster.
