Eastern Iowa Biggest Loser: Cassidy Bailey

TRIPOLI (KWWL) -- For as long as she can remember music has been a central part of Cassidy Bailey's life... a passion she lives to share with others.

"It was one of those things where I thought about it and there's nothing else I want to do in the world...that's when I said I want to be a music teacher. I got so much fulfillment out of teaching kids and having a choir and I realized I didn't want it to be about me I want to give to other people," Bailey said.

The joy she found in teaching and music was tempered by the life long struggles she had with her weight.

''It was really hard, because I always felt like.. I didn't want people to look at me..like I wasn't good enough to have people...I knew people but in the back of my mind I felt like I was just not there or not good enough of a person," Bailey said.

At her heaviest, Bailey says she tipped the scale at 332 pounds. The extra weight was like an anchor holding her down physically, emotionally and mentally.

"I wasn't even able to do my job with some of those problems so I got tested for sleep apnea and I found out I had it and once I saw that CPAP machine and that test I felt like, I don't want to live like this anymore," Bailey said.

Instead of looking for quick fixes Bailey rolled up her sleeves and went to work.

In less than a year of eating right, exercising 5-6 days a week and subscribing to a healthier lifestyle the excess weight began to melt away. Cassidy Bailey has lost more than 100 pounds since last February.

During her weight loss journey, Bailey has discovered she has amazing hidden strength. And it's no coincidence that she chose the Journey song, "Don't Stop Believing"  for her students to perform at an upcoming concert.

"To me that song is just like so important because I cannot stop believing that I will achieve my goals and that I will become the person I want to be. I know that I'm a good person and I deserve that. I know my kids deserve the best teacher they can have and my family deserves a good daughter and a good sister. It's a song for me... Don't stop believing," Bailey said.
