BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) -- The Iowa State Patrol says Black Hawk County Deputy Adam Stainbrook of Evansdale, was hit while responding to a call on the northbound side of the highway near mile marker 189 on Monday night.

Officials say a vehicle was in the ditch when Stainbrook exited his patrol car. When walking to the vehicle in the ditch, a truck driven by Thomas Pint of Waterloo lost control. Pint, 59, hit the vehicle already in the ditch, and Deputy Stainbrook in the process.

Pint was charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Failure to Maintain Control.

Traffic was reduced for a short time. Stainbrook was taken to Allen Hospital. Sheriff Tony Thompson says Stainbrook is sore and will spend several days resting, but he's expected to make a full recovery.
