Iowa soldier killed in Afghanistan

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- An Iowa soldier serving in Afghanistan has died in a roadside bombing.

The family of 26-year-old U.S. Army Specialist Shawn Muhr, of Coon Rapids, say he was killed on Saturday by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

Muhr's family says he had returned home on leave just after Christmas and returned to Afghanistan on Jan. 12.

The Department of Defense has not confirmed Muhr's death.

Muhr was a 2003 graduate of Coon Rapids-Bayard High School. He joined the Army six years ago.
