Expect lots of snow this week

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- We have a couple of snow makers that will track through the state. The first is moving through today with the bulk of the snow falling in the northern counties. They could get 5-7" near the Minnesota border through tonight. Areas closer to Interstate 80 will only see a trace through the day today with 1-3" inches expected overnight tonight.

The second system will be a doozy with lots of snow and lots of wind. The track of the system will keep the heaviest totals just to our south, but we will still have the potential to receive over 8" of snow in portions of SE and East Central Iowa. A Winter Weather Advisory is posted today through Tuesday for the northern counties for the snow today and tomorrow. A Winter Storm Watch goes into effect by tomorrow afternoon and will continue into Wednesday for the heaviest amounts of snow and the winds that will pick up to 20-30 mph with higher gusts. That will create blowing and drifting snow with severely reduced visibilities, especially from Dubuque through Des Moines.
