Iowa State suspends Tau'fo'ou indefinitely

AMES (KWWL) -- Iowa State has suspended linebacker Matt Tau'fo'ou from the football team after his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.

The athletic department says head coach Paul Rhoads suspended Tau'fo'ou indefinitely for breaking team rules.

Iowa State University police Deputy Chief Rob Bowers says the 22-year-old was stopped by officers early Saturday morning and that his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

A Story County Jail spokesman said Monday that Tau'fo'ou has left custody.

Records say Tau'fo'ou was fined and assessed court costs of $250 total in fall 2009 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor theft.

The athletic department says Tau'fo'ou played in seven games last season.
