Final Hawkeye football players released from hospital

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The last of several University of Iowa football players have been released from the hospital.

13 players checked into the hospital last Monday, complaining of discolored urine and soreness. They were diagnosed with a muscle disorder that can be caused by extreme physical exertion.

The athletes had been involved with an intense off-season workout in the week before they were hospitalized.

Iowa's athletic department said five students were discharged Friday, six on Saturday, and two on Sunday.

Coach Kirk Ferentz apologized for what happened to the players, saying they had been training but did not do anything wrong.

The university is investigating what happened.
