Fighting Saints thump the Black Hawks 5-2

WATERLOO(KWWL)--The Waterloo Black Hawks had at least one bounce go their way in a 5-2 loss at home against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at Young Arena Friday.

Trailing 2-0 in the second after first period scores by Brooks Bertsch and John Doherty, Blake Thompson dumped the puck up the glass from center.  With some zip behind the dump-in, the puck spun out of the corner, into the crease, off goaltender Matt Morris, and across the goal line, making the score 2-1 at 6:05.

Waterloo could not tie the score, as Scott Wamsganz, John Gaudreau, and Nick Luukko found the net for the Fighting Saints before the second intermission.  The Hawks won the third period, scoring the lone goal of the frame on the power play from Aaron Pearce at 14:02.
