Cedar Rapids felon convicted of having gun

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A convicted felon and marijuana user from Cedar Rapids has been convicted of having a shotgun.

Court documents say Jacob Mack, 20, was convicted Friday of one count of being a felon and illegal drug user in possession of a firearm.

Mack was convicted of Theft in the Second Degree in June 2010 and was an unlawful user of marijuana on Aug. 18, 2010.  That same night, court officials say Mack was driving his mother's car in Cedar Rapids and pointed a 20-gauge shotgun at people in another car after an argument.

Police found a loaded shotgun with three additional rounds of ammunition, a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe in the car.

It's illegal for an unlawful drug user to possess a gun or ammunition under federal law.

Mack faces up to 10 years in prison without parole, a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.

A sentencing date has not been set.
