Saturated fats and trans fats can raise risk of depression

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Eating a diet high in saturated and trans fats may raise the risk of depression.

Researchers tracked the diet, lifestyle and medical ailments of over 12,000 people for six years.

Those who ate high amounts of trans-fats were 48 percent more likely to develop depression over the study period compared to those who didn't consume these fats.

On the other hand, depression risk was lowered in those who consumed healthy, polyunsaturated fats, like those in fish, along with olive oil.
