Scouts pack up popcorn for Iowa troops

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) --  Some troops will get some special treats from Iowa Boy Scouts.

Tuesday night, the Scouts with the Hawkeye Area Council packed up popcorn to send to Iowa Guard and Reserve soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The popcorn was purchased during popcorn sales in the fall and donated for the troops.

Troops set an all time record this time around, packing up 2,700 packages to send overseas.

"I'm very proud of all our scouts, the impact they're making on letting our brave men and women fighting overseas know that us here back at home are thinking of them,'' said Doug Alberhasky, the promotions chair with the Hawkeye Area Council.

The scouts also wrote letters to the troops and took pictures of themselves that will be included with the popcorn.
